12Discover Washington DestinationsThe Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend has experienced many revivals. This year, visitors can enjoy the Olympic Peninsula town%u2019s new shop and restaurant options in its brick buildings, alongside old-world charm. The experience is made all the richer with fog- and mist-shrouded mountains and buildings, multiple waterfront parks and boardwalks, faded two-story advertisements and bright red replica streetcars serving as buses plying the streets.Port Townsend%u2019s new arrivals The Bottle Shop is just one of many new establishments that have opened downtown, moved spaces or changed ownership in the past five years or so. Nikki%u2019s Quickie opened a few months ago as a casual shop with hearty sandwiches, salads and matcha drinks. Sandwiches range from Filipino chicken adobo to smoked turkey and brie. Nikki%u2019s is the newest venture from the same owners of Tommyknocker%u2019s Cornish Pasty, a cozy, popular pub-style restaurant that opened in 2019. Established stores have moved into new spaces, allowing for expansion, including Wild Rose & Clove, which artfully curates a mix of clothing, chocolate, candles and handmade leather goods made in the store%u2019s onsite workshop. Zee Tai Collective is a new creative studio for working artists, and a gallery featuring prints and art for sale %u2014 joining the town%u2019s existing palette of art galleries. In November, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center opened a new exhibit at the center%u2019s downtown Flagship Landing Gallery, %u201cUnder the Surface of the Salish Sea.%u201d View an impressive array of sea-life-inspired two- and three-dimensional artworks. House of the Faun is a fun store offering captivating, mysterious gifts sourced from around the world, ranging from Polish mobiles to Italian religious statues, seasonal Advent calendars to white-elephant-ready hand-lettering kits. Don%u2019t miss the small collection of affordable art and rugs at the back of the store. Quirkier still is Type Townsend, a shop specializing in typewriters, petite antiques and ephemera. Newer goods can be purchased at Millstream, which opened around two years ago, joining a sister store on Bainbridge Island.
