A 16-stop walking tour takes you past a historic bank, city hall, post office, Masonic lodge and other charming buildings now housing a variety of restaurants, antique stores and saloons. The tour also passes by the tiny Tenino Farmers Market, open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays, where you might find berries and cherries and other locally grown produce, mead and wine and handmade gifts. Nearby, the Tenino Stone Carvers Guild%u2019s showroom opens its doors on Saturdays from 10a.m.-4 p.m. so you can watch carvers at work.Downtown Tenino%u2019s impressive city park features tall, modern kids%u2019 play climbing structures. It sits along the Chehalis Western Trail, a former railroad corridor now serving as a 22-mile paved multiuse path for walkers, runners and cyclists. Nearby, the 1914 Tenino Depot Museum contains town and tribal history, including a collection of children%u2019s toys from the 1900s through 2000s and the haunting origins of nearby Bucoda, a recreated antique doctor%u2019s office with authentic supplies and a one-room schoolhouse where you can still ring a 100-year-old school bell. You can currently visit an organic caf%u00e9 or pick up grass-fed, grass-finished beef at the Colvin Ranch Provisions storefront. Then, head north along Tilley Road SW for an afternoon tasting experience at Sandstone Distillery%u2019s barrel bistro tables, including a choice of a clear spirits flight or amber spirits flight, plus cocktail samples, light snacks, chocolates and a distillery tour. Many family farms dot the entire Thurston Bountiful Byway route. Nearby Rutledge Family Farm operates a farmstand and opens its sunflower fields for photos at its late-summer Sunflower Festival. Set your route-finding app to reach Lattin%u2019s Country Cider Mill & Farm, roughly 9 miles away. Walk the fir-shaded grounds and spy animals (including chickens, goats, bunnies and peacocks) in backyard pens. Visit the mill%u2019s store for the award-winning apple cider, or an apple cider doughnut or fritter.
