abused and neglected children each year is
not enough.
“Every day I hear about families in crisis.
Stories from our community of children be-
ing exposed to abuse or neglect,” says Chavez
Wilcox. “But what I don’t hear about enough,
is that child abuse and neglect is preventable.
We can cure this now.”
Childhaven’s science-based trauma-
treatment programs have proven effective
in building the strong foundation children
need for healthy growth and development.
Therapeutic intervention early in a child’s life
reduces the risk of serious, lifelong physical-
and mental-health problems.
Childhaven recently announced the launch
of a new brand identity to increase support
of its treatment program for early childhood
trauma and to raise public awareness about
child abuse and neglect. This change comes
as the organization pursues an ambitious
strategic plan to dramatically increase its
impact and aid more children in the com-
munity.
First up in Childhaven’s program expan-
sion is the creation of a family crisis re-
source program to serve the Seattle area.
The organization is also securing funding to
grow its home-visitation program, serving
more families and increasing the frequency
of visits.
Additionally, Childhaven is conducting a
feasibility assessment on establishing a train-
ing institute that will share proven, trauma-
treatment practices with early childhood care
providers.
“Our new strategies are about embrac-
ing new challenges, methods and science
because we believe a community of healthy
children and stable families is within our
reach,” Chavez Wilcox says.
