3 FOLKLIFE IS… FORTHEPEOPLE BYTHEPEOPLE. This powerful vision comes with a personal responsibility - Folklife is here for you, but it is also made possible BY YOU . Over the course of a four-day weekend, nearly 6,000 participants will bring stories, dances, songs, cultural practices, heritage, media, works of art, and workshops to this multicultural gathering. For all of this, we ask attendees for a modest daily donation of $10 AND we are grateful for contributions of any size, small or large. The reality is, on a single night out, we spend $10-$100 or more to see a single performance or $20-$75 to take our family to a movie. We ask you to consider, what will YOU give to support a community celebration with HUNDREDS of performances, cultural activities, and learning opportunities spanning 26 stages? WHAT ISTHEVALUE OFCOMMUNITY? Our city and region are growing at an exponential pace. In this growth, there are opportunities for even more creativity, sharing, and innovation. At the same time, some of this growth has been at the expense of the very people and communities who have built the foundations of strength and vibrancy into the character of the Pacific Northwest. It is especially crucial at this moment for each of us to do our part and guarantee that this truly one-of-a-kind experience remains accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for ALL to continue to enjoy and participate in. For the past several years, it was estimated that only 17% of attendees made a financial contribution to the Festival. In 2017, following a call to action, there was a tremendous community response, and overall donations increased. If each of us reflects on what we get from participating in the Festival and contributes accordingly, not only can we raise the funds to ensure that the vision, mission and core values of Northwest Folklife continue to thrive, we can sustain and amplify the power of your investment - a community investment – now and in the future.
