Folklife Festiva - May 25-28, 2018

2 Folklife is...our stories. Our community. It is the space we occupy and the identities we inhabit, so that we may bring our whole selves to each moment. Folklife is...our roots. Our heritage. It is the wisdom and the magic our ancestors left for us. Folklife is…our evolution. Our hope. It is the joy, beauty, sorrow, and challenge that inspires our imagination and fuels our creativity. Folklife is...making a lifelong friend, learning about someone else’s culture, and sharing our ownwith them. It is seeing the pure joy on the faces of children and adults, alike, as they hear the crooning of Hawaiian melodies, feel the thunder of Salish drums, and twirl with row upon row of contra dancers in Fisher Pavilion. It is the delight of discovering that band on the Fountain Lawn Stage, the one that suddenly pops up on radio the very next month! Since 1972, Northwest Folklife has brought the community together to make these very experiences happen, and has given lifelong Seattleites and Pacific Northwesterners, as well as a myriad of newcomers and visitors, numerous reasons fall in love with our region, over and over again. As you wander through the Uncommon Marketplace or rows of delicious local food selections, make sure to make a stop at the intersection of blues, bluegrass, bachata and Bulgarian hillsong. Take a moment (or several!) to celebrate that you are taking part in an amazing community-powered legacy that has remained accessible to ALL and served ten million people since its inception. This Memorial Day Weekend, we once again invoke the magic, together, to bring the Northwest Folklife Festival to life. Over 250,000 people will bring compelling stories, deep cultural roots and visionary evolution to this gathering place. Folklife is and remains...yours, mine, ours. Folklife is...for the people, by the people. Welcome to the 47th Annual Northwest Folklife Festival! We are so glad that you are here with us.
