TakeWinter ByStorm is apublic-private, collaborative
educationprogramhelpingpeopleget better prepared
forwinter storms. Every yearWesternWashington is
facedwithnatural disasters—hazardouswinterweather
storms. Preparingour communities for our annual weather
hazardswill lead them through the steps tobeprepared
for unforeseen and even catastrophicdisasters.
Cooperativepartners of this year’s program include:
EMERGENCYPREPAREDNESSKITS
Beprepared to take careof yourself and those around you. Gather the following
items tobuild emergencypreparedness kits. Prepare at least threedays’ of
essentials (seven to tendays preferred) for your family andpets. Kits should
beportable and ready togo in caseof evacuation.
Water – onegallonofwater per personper day for at least threedays
for drinking and sanitation (seven to tendays preferred)
Food – at least a three-day supplyof non-perishable, ready-to-eat
food andmanual canopener (seven to tendays preferred)
Battery-poweredor hand-crank radio, NOAAWeather Radio
with tone alert and extrabatteries for both
Flashlight and extrabatteries
First-aid kit
EmergencyContact Card
Multipurpose tool
Whistle to signal for help
Antiseptic towelettes, garbagebags andplastic ties for personal sanitation
Duskmask, tohelpfilter contaminated air
Cellphonewith chargers (car charger
recommended in the event of power outage)
Thermal emergencyblankets
Rainponchos
Personal hygiene supplies (toothbrush, toothpaste,
sanitarynapkins, soap, towel, etc.)
Copies of important documents, placed in awaterproof
container or bag, including:
• Copyof your driver’s license and/or birth certificate
• Bank account information
• Insurance cards, policynumbers and insurer contact information
Cash (bankmachinesmaynot be functional; small bills arebest)
Extra set of house keys
Prescriptionmedications (seven-day supply suggested)
Pet supplies (food, water, blanket, medications)
Children’s/baby supplies (coloringbook/crayons,
diapers/wipes, formula, baby food)
