                                    Special Advertising Section | Sunday, September 28, 2025 7do extensive research writing papers and outside presentations of the same manner,%u201d she says. %u201cIt was also life-changing in a way because this coursework helped me mature in my thinking.%u201dAt Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, students have access to about 30 IB classes, ranging from language and literature to math and science, says Amy Monaghan, who coordinates the IB program and teaches Higher Level History.%u201cIt%u2019s work, but it%u2019s good work, and most students can take on some amount of rigor,%u201d Monaghan says. %u201cWhy not take a chance in high school before going off to college?%u201dElaina Dumaliang, an Inglemoor junior with an interest in law and political science, says the work is challenging and at times stressful, but she%u2019s honing her timemanagement and self-accountability skills in the process.She says the extracurricular component helped her grow in unexpected ways.%u201cThe out-of-classroom requirements, while being yet another task to keep in mind, encouraged me to manage my time well, and hold myself accountable when I wasn%u2019t being reminded by my teachers every day,%u201d Dumaliang says.Inglemoor graduate Weiju Wang, who plans to study linguistics at the University of Washington, says he was so nervous about IB that he considered bailing on the program before it started. Once the classes began, however, a supportive cohort of classmates and his participation in the school%u2019s pit orchestra boosted his morale.His advice for students considering IB studies: %u201cOnce you%u2019ve gone through IB, you%u2019ll feel a lot better equipped to handle stress and high workloads.
