His older sister is a physician assistant, and her example made him think he could make a positive difference as a nurse. %u201cI like being of service to someone,%u201d he says. %u201cThat fills me with an amazing sense of accomplishment and joy.%u201dWhen Johnston did his nursing program%u2019s psych rotation, he thrived %u2014 and knew he was in the right place. %u201cThe light was shining down from the heavens,%u201d he says, and it was immediately clear to him that this was what he wanted to do. %u201cI was totally fascinated and absolutely in love%u201d with the work, he says.He is now a registered nurse at Seattle%u2019s Harborview Medical Center, and he wishes he had started his nursing career sooner so he could have had even more years in the field. His advice to those planning a fresh start: %u201cDo it sooner rather than later.
