GivingGuide2019

SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2019 | Special Advertising Section 1 R 2 Welcome from the GiveBIG 2019 Non- profit Advisory Council! We are so excited to welcome you to GiveBIG2019, brought to you for the first time as a collaboration from your nonprofit community! We want to extend our thanks to Seattle Foundation for pioneering this amazing day of giving back in 2011. What they started has grown into a critical day of funding that supports 1,500 nonprofits and has raised over $113 million in the last eight years. This fund- ing by the community, for the community provides critical support to power our nonprofits as we work to make our com- munities stronger and healthier. A huge thank you to the more than 200 nonprofits who worked over the last year to find a way to continue this day. These organizations dedicated significant time to ensure that nonprofits across Washington State would have the resources generated from this day to positively impact clients and grow their needed programs and services. Thank you to Encore Media Group, who stepped up as a partner even before we knew exactly how we would make some of the details work. Their “all-in” attitude and willingness to dive into the work alongside us gave us the encouragement we needed to put together the final pieces. Finally, significant thanks is due to 501 Commons, who has stepped forward to make this day possible by providing many of the key roles and offering much needed fundraising training and support to par- ticipating nonprofits. Together we have be- come a mighty, collaborative team who has not only found a path to continue GiveBIG well into the future but have expanded the reach to nonprofits across the state of Washington and increased the number of ways that donors can get involved! We invite you to join us in this day of giv- ing to support our entire community. This year we have new ways that donors can get involved by creating personal fundraising campaigns. Whatever you care about — social services, education, animal welfare, arts, science, youth — you will find a hardworking nonprofit organization to support. Please join me and consider giving gener- ously because when we give together, we GiveBIG and our whole state wins! As a Seattle Times reader, you are tuned into the world around you and aware of our interdependence. You see that a poisoned stream flowing into the water supply makes your world less safe. That a mes- sage of hate scrawled on the side of an immigrant’s business disrespects us all. That an unsheltered teenager can only be protected by a community with the ca- pacity to take action and not just walk by. On May 8, you can demonstrate your be- lief in the catalytic power of community by donating to nonprofits that are solving hard-to-solve problems; bringing art, education, and nature into our lives; and caring for our neighbors when they need a helping hand. 501 Commons is pleased to be the new home for GiveBIG. We believe we all rise when nonprofits thrive. For 30 years, 501 Commons has been serving nonprofits in our region as experts, innovators, and partners. Our passion is to amplify the strengths of nonprofits — so people and communities flourish. We are grateful to the companies, foundations, and media partners that made GiveBIG possible — especially the Satterberg Foundation and the Seattle Foundation. We also thank our partners: Ostara Group (fundraising training), CiviCore (technology plat- form), and Encore Media Group (media and marketing). In addition, we have ben- efited from the guidance of our GiveBIG Nonprofit Advisory Council. Author and professor Meg Wheatley wrote, “There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” Discover what you care about. Search by cause or browse the website to discover the amazing missions on display at givebig2019.org. Your online donations — or donations arranged through your donor-advised fund — will benefit hundreds of thou- sands of people. When you give, also share! Let others know you are giving, and encourage them to do so, too. Go to the website to create your own fundraising campaign and reach out to friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues to raise money for your causes. Schedule your gift today or join us on May 8.
