5 CULTURALFOCUS Photo credit: Christopher Nelson “Created by the Colectiva Noroeste, the Pop Up Mercado is a space for comunidad to come together to celebrate and share cultura as we showcase the work of local artists and artisans in the Pacific Northwest.” – Jake Prendez, Colectiva Noroeste Próxima Generación: Youth Residency Project The main focus of this program is to offer a larger platform for youth to explore their heritage and visualize the future. This program provides a space for young artists, activists, and culture bearers of all ages to collaborate, share ideas and envision the future, while building a strong community together. Passing down knowledge and heritage from culture bearers through intergenerational dialogue creates a community that is stronger. Visit the Vera Gallery throughout the weekend to learn more about this special project. Catch the Próxima Generación showcase on Saturday in the Vera Project from 6 PM - 7:30 PM. Próxima Generación: Proyecto De Residencia Artística Para Jóvenes El principal enfoque de este programa, es ofrecer una plataforma más grande para que la juventud pueda explorar su herencia y visualizar el futuro. Este programa proveerá un espacio para jóvenes artistas, activistas y portadores de cultura de todas las edades; para colaborar, compartir ideas e imaginar el futuro construyendo juntos una comunidad fuerte. El traspaso de conocimiento y de la herencia de los portadores de cultura, a través del diálogo intergeneracional, crea una comunidad más fuerte. Echoes of Aztlán and Beyond: Mexican Folklórico Showcase Experience traditional Mexican folk dancing as seven Northwest regional ballet folklórico groups showcase a repertoire of regional styles on Sunday, May 27, 3 PM - 6 PM in the McCaw Hall. Cultural Cuisine Demonstrations Cooking Asparagus Tamales With Felipe Hernandez, co-owner of Los Hernandez Tamales. Felipe Hernandez was names one of five recipients of the James Beard Foundation’s ‘America’s Classics’ award in 2018.
