10 n Underwood Stables Showcase Interview with founder and curator, Robynne Hawthorne What Is Underwood Stables? Underwood Stables is a community-driven social club featuring live music, dancing, food and crafts showcasing the talents of our members. Since our Fremont venue closed, and while searching for another space, we have been bringing our events to other locations around town like Royal Room, Conor Byrne and 1927. How did you choose the bands in your showcase this year? We chose the bands we did for Folklife because one or more of the bandmates are members and played in one of our house bands, Davidson Hart Kingsbery and the Ganges River Band. Dancing is an intrinsic part of the Underwood Stables and these bands are part of that culture. Dean Johnson (Lowman Palace), Airon Dugas (The Ganges River Band), and Country Dave (all-around superhero) have been loyal Underwood musicians and were part of our six years in Fremont. Cahalen Morrison played our venue toward the end of our time. These bands and our community of outlaw swing dancers together bring a certain spirit to a place. The original Underwood Stables location was packed with unique curios and vintage pieces. Will we see any of that at the Festival? You can expect to see our Underwood Stage at the Fountain Lawn with some of the pieces from our venue, a dance floor and a small merchandise booth that tells a little about us.
