SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2020 | Special Advertising Section 1 R 8 George H. Bartell Sr. purchases his first drug store in Seattle. George H. Bartell Sr. travels to the Yukon to prospect for gold. He returns in 1898 with a plan to open several drug stores in downtown Seattle. Bartell’s opens a candy factory at 1906 Boren Ave. By 1930, Bartell’s produces and sells a ton of candy each day. Bartell’s opens a photo laboratory. It will close in the late 1950s. Bartell’s leases a site at 401 Pine Street, where a new drug store is built later that year. This location is now Westlake Park. G be B 1890 1897 – 1898 1913 1917 1935 19 1995 The first of many flu shots are given by Bartell pharmacists. Bartell’s opens its first modern-day 24-hour pharmacy in Lower Queen Anne.
